I returned to the surgery later in the morning (see Skeldale House photo) and asked if I could meet & visit Mr Wight. His receptionist asked me to wait, returned shortly and pointed me toward his office.

He greeted me warmly and asked to make myself confortable. 

We chatted for about ten minutes regarding a few of the delightful characters in his books, i.e., Mrs. Pomfrey and her dog, "Tricky Woo", and other subject matter.

I left feeling extremely lucky to have met this charming, lovely English gentleman and pleased with myself and proud that I had met James Herriot as planned...

Apparently, as it turns out, I was one of the first "Herriot Pilgrims" as there later developed an entire culture around him and "Darrowby" (Thirsk) later known as, "Herriot Country" ...
