  1. 1.  Sir Richard le Scrope, 2nd Baron Scrope of Bolton was born in >1370 in (Yorkshire) England; died on 3 Dec 1403 in Bolton, Yorkshire, England.

    Notes:

Roger, Lord Scrope of Bolton was a member of the English peerage in the late fourteenth century.

He was the second son of Richard Scrope, 1st Baron Scrope of Bolton (c. 1327–1403) and Blanche de la Pole (sister of the earl of Suffolk). Roger Scrope's elder brother, his father's heir, had been beheaded for treason by the newly crowned King Henry IV in 1399, making Roger his father's heir.[1]

Roger Scrope was probably born prior to 1370,[2] and had been knighted 1385, whilst he was deputy governor of Mann. He was married c. 1385 to Margaret Deincourt (daughter and coheiress of the second Lord Deincourt).[3]

Roger Scrope died in Bolton on 3 December 1403, only four months after inheriting his title. He was buried in Easby; his will had been written two days previously. His widow married again two years later, but her second husband fled the realm in 1415, having been condemned as a felon.[4]

His heir was his only son, who became Richard Scrope, 3rd Baron Scrope of Bolton.[5]

  1. 2.  Sir Richard Scrope, 3rd Baron Scrope Descendancy chart to this point (1.Richard1) was born in 1393 in Yorkshire, England; died on 29 Aug 1420 in Rouen, France.

    Notes:

Richard, Lord Scrope of Bolton (1393–1420) was a member of the fifteenth-century English peerage in Yorkshire.

The only son and heir of Roger Scrope, 2nd Baron Scrope of Bolton (d. 1403), and Margaretha Tiptoft (alias de Tibetot) (1366–1431), co-heiress of the Barony of Tibetot. From the death of his father, Richard Scrope was in the ward of Queen Katherine, who had the keeping of both his estates and also his marriage. This the queen arranged by the end of 1413 to Margaret, daughter of Ralph Neville, 1st Earl of Westmorland (d. 1425) and his first wife, the daughter of Hugh Stafford, 2nd Earl of Stafford.[1]

Richard Scrope fought in the major theatres of Henry V's French campaign, bringing fifteen men-at-arms and forty-five archers to the Battle of Agincourt and commanding a naval section at the Siege of Harfleur composed of barges and balingers.[1] His last years were spent defending the north-east coast of England against the threat of Scottish sea attacks; in 1418 he was based in Kingston upon Hull with 120 men-at-arms and 240 archers.[2]

He died in Rouen on 29 August 1420; his widow survived until 1463.[3] Following Scrope's death, due to his marriage with a Neville, his estates became the subject of a bitter feud between his executor, Marmaduke Lumley, and Sir Richard Neville.[4]

Family/Spouse: Margaret Neville. Margaret (daughter of Sir Ralph Neville, Knight, 1st Earl of Westmorland and Margaret Stafford, Countess of Westmorland) was born in 1396 in Raby, Durham, England; died in ~ 4 Mar 1463. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Generation: 3

  1. 3.  Sir Henry Scrope, 4th Baron Scrope of Bolton Descendancy chart to this point (2.Richard2, 1.Richard1) was born on 4 Jun 1418 in Bolton, Yorkshire, England; died on 14 Jan 1459 in (Bolton Castle, North Leyburn, North Yorkshire, England DL8 4ET).

    Notes:

Henry Scrope, 4th Baron Scrope of Bolton (1418-1459) was a member of the English peerage in Yorkshire in the 15th century.

Born 4 June 1418 to Richard Scrope, 3rd Baron Scrope of Bolton and Margaret Neville, he was still a minor when his father died in 1420. As such, his lands and marriageability were in the keeping of his uncle Sir Richard Neville until the young Scrope was 21. He appears to have remained living with his mother, who undertook not to marry him off (being held to a ¹1,000 bond not to do so).[1] His inheritance was the subject of a brief feud between Richard Neville and Marmaduke Lumley, later Bishop of Carlisle, who had been patronised by Richard Scrope.[2] Lumley's claim was, however, "successfully resisted" by Neville.[3] Henry Scrope received seisin of his estates on 2 February 1439, and two years later he was summoned to parliament as a knight.[1]

    Political and administrative career

Much of his career was concerned with administering the royal will in Yorkshire,[1] which was undoubtedly a source of income for him. For example, in the 1440s, the City of York offered him gifts to gain his "friendship".[4] He sat on commissions of the peace in 1448 and 1458;[5] commissioned to collect a subsidy in 1450; and to negotiate with Burgundy over infractions of the truce in 1449.[1] He was even on the Commission of Oyer and terminer in 1453, appointed by the Crown to investigate the violent Percy-Neville feud; this, as historian Ralph A. Griffiths has pointed out, was while he was actually involved in the feud, standing with Salisbury's sons against the House of Percy at the confrontation at Topcliffe, for example.[6] Henry Scrope, in later years, became a supporter of Neville on the West March with Scotland,[7] and was also summoned to the parliament of 1454 during the protectorate of the Duke of York, as part of what has been called a "Neville bloc" supporting the duke.[8] He was again summoned, similarly, to the pro-Yorkist parliament of 1460, and oversaw the appointment of Salisbury's youngest son George as Chancellor.[9]

    Marriage and death

Scrope married, around 1435, Elizabeth Scrope (his fifth cousin), who was a daughter of John Scrope, 4th Baron Scrope of Masham. Scrope died on 14 January 1459; his widow survived him until at least 1498.[1]

    end of biography

John Scrope, 5th Baron Scrope of Bolton, KG (22 July 1437 – 17 August 1498) was an English Yorkist nobleman.

    Early life

Born at Bolton Castle, Yorkshire, the eldest son of Henry Scrope, 4th Baron Scrope of Bolton and Elizabeth Scrope, he inherited his title on the death of his father in 1459.[1]

    Career

He was invested as a knight before 1460 while serving as a Commissioner of the Peace for York. As a Yorkist sympathiser, he fought for the Earl of Warwick at the Battle of Northampton and was injured at the Battle of Towton. He was also at the Battle of Hexham. He was invested as a Knight of the Garter by Edward IV in 1463. In 1475 he joined the king with 20 men-at-arms and 200 archers to invade France. In 1482 he led the van of the English army under the Earl of Northumberland when invading Scotland.[2]

He served the crown on a variety of important missions and commissions.[3]

In 1485 he supported the Yorkist Richard III at the Battle of Bosworth but was pardoned by the victor Henry VII, possibly at the intercession of the King's mother, who was the half-sister of his second wife Elizabeth. After the accession of Henry VII he then supported the Yorkist pretender Lambert Simnel and in 1487, with Thomas, 6th Baron Scrope of Masham, made an unsuccessful attack on Bootham Bar in York, This time he had to pay a heavy fine and remain within the London area.[4][5] In 1497 he fought against the Scots and assisted in raising the siege of Norham Castle.

On his death in 1498, his title passed to his son and heir, Henry Scrope, 6th Baron Scrope of Bolton. His daughter, Mary Scrope, married William Conyers, 1st Baron Conyers.[6]

    Marriages and issue

John Scrope married, firstly in 1447, Joan FitzHugh, daughter of William FitzHugh, 4th Baron FitzHugh and Margery Willoughby. Their son and heir was Henry Scrope.

He married secondly, before 10 December 1471, Elizabeth St John (d. before 3 July 1494), daughter of Sir Oliver St John (d.1437) and Margaret Beauchamp of Bletso, maternal grandmother of King Henry VII of England. She was the widow of William Zouche, 5th Baron Zouche (d. 25 December 1462) of Harringworth. In 1470, Elizabeth was godmother to the future King Edward V of England.[7] Her loyalty to the House of York was inevitably suspect since she was the half-sister of Lady Margaret Beaufort, who was the mother of the future King Henry VII.[citation needed] John and Elizabeth were proclaimed loyalists to the House of Lancaster, yet John seemed to stick by the Yorkist side.[citation needed] Their daughter was Mary Scrope, Baroness Conyers.

He married thirdly, after 9 February 1490/1, Anne Harling, daughter and heir of Sir Robert Harling, and widow of Sir Robert Wingfield, MP.[8]

    Biography

Richard Harrison, was from West Kirby, co. Chester, England[1]

Baptism. 31 MAR 1593 Place: West Kirby, Cheshire, England [2]

After the death of his parents, Richard and his first wife Mary immigrated to America, arriving in New Haven in 1640. Richard's first wife's maiden name is unknown. They had four children.

Richard married his second wife Margaret Picke. She was also originally from the same town as Richard in England. Her parents immigrated to Connecticut 1620-1640. They were one of the first families in New Haven. Richard and Margaret had at least 10 children.[3]

He took the oath of allegiance at New Haven Colony in 5 Aug. 1644[4]

    He went to Branford in1653[5][6].

A source says the children were born in England. Possibly the four of first wife Mary. [5] https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/104043834 Richard, Thomas, Mary, Elizabeth.

Richard jr. went to Newark NJ May 1666, because of dis-satisfaction with the Branford Church. He married Sarah Hubbard, born in Wethersfield, about 1635, dtr of George and Mary (Bishop) of Wethersfield and Milford. Their son Thomas was born about 1630. He was an ensign, he stayed in Connecticut.

Mary or Maria, in Branford 27 nov 1662, married Thomas Pierson, Sr. They went to Newark, NJ 1666.

Elizabeth, m. (1) Henry Lyne (d. 14 Jan 1662/3) of New Haven, son of John. Married (2) John Lampson of New Haven; m. (3) John Morris of New Haven. They removed to Newark.

Samuel (prob. son of Richard) d. at Neward in 1705; m. Sarah Johnson.
Ellen (prob. d. of Richard), m. 25 Feb 1650/1 John Thompson of New Haven.
Richard died in Branford in October 1653.

    Research Notes
There seems to be a lot of disagreement regarding Richard Harrison's parentage.

Jean Harrison Stokes Childs says (p. 1): "HARRISON, Richard (d1654), son of Thomas and uncle of Gen Thomas Harrison, the regicide; g-son of Ricard, twice mayor of Newcastle-under-Lyme, came from West Kirby, Cheshire, Eng. 1640, settled at New Haven, Conn. later removed to Branford. m. Sarah YORKE." She cites: Imigrant Ancestors - Extracted from Vol. VIII, American Genealogy, Frederick Adams Virkus (ed.), Genealogical Pub. Co., Baltimore, MD 1986.
According to the Harrison DNA Project, Lineage 16,[7] the lineage for Ricard Harrison (also citing Childs' book) has Richard Harrison, Sr.'s parents as Richard Harrison and Alice
On Family Search (ID MHRP-WML) Richard's mother is either Ellen (nee ???) or Elinor Riggs.
Husband of Margaret Picke — married July 28, 1619 in West Kirby, Cheshire, England

About 1640 he came to the early Jamestown VA settlement as minister of Elizabeth River parish (Anglican, Episcopal). He also served as chaplain to William Berkeley, the Governor of Virginia (1645-1652).

After the Indian massacre, April 18, 1644, Harrison turned Puritan himself and then in 1648 left the Anglican church. He went to New England where he married Dorothy Symonds, daughter of Samuel Symonds of Ipswich, MA, Deputy Governor of MA, and a native of Great Zeldham, Essex, England. He became an independent, Congregational minister.

In 1650, Harrison with his family, returned to England where he first served as minister at St. Dunstans-in-the-East, London, then went to Bromborough Hall in Cheshire, and in 1655 accompanied Henry Cromwell to Dublin, Ireland. His wife, Dorothy, died sometime during 1653-1659.

Upon the Restoration in 1660, Harrison returned to Chester where he preached to large congregations in the Cathedral.
It is while he was at Chester that he married his second wife, Katherine Bradshaw, daughter of Edward Bradshaw, Mercer & Sheriff of Chester. When the "Act of Uniformity of 1662" was passed, he continued in Chester preaching as an independent until about 1672 when he went back to Dublin where he started a flourshing church of dissenters.

He died in Dublin, Ireland "amidst general mourning."

John Cave was born 1644 in England, the son of Samuel Cave and Rachel Kellogg.

He was an importer of fine wines. He owned land in Stafford County.

He married 1st Elizabeth Andrews, daughter of George Andrews and had issue: Mary, John, William and David.

He married 2nd Elizabeth Travers, no children from this union.

John Cave and his son-in-law John Echols, sponsored settlers to come to Virginia by paying their transportation for which they received headrights for fifty acres.

[A headright is a legal grant of land to settlers. Headrights are most notable for their role in the expansion of the thirteen British colonies in North America; the Virginia Company of London gave headrights to settlers, and the Plymouth Company followed suit. The headright system was used in several colonies, including Maryland, Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina. Most headrights were for 1 to 1,000 acres (4.0 km2) of land, and were given to anyone willing to cross the Atlantic Ocean and help populate the colonies. Headrights were granted to anyone who would pay for the transportation costs of a laborer or indentured servant. These land grants consisted of 50 acres (200,000 m2) for someone newly moving to the area and 100 acres (0.40 km2) for people previously living in the area. By giving the land to the landowning masters the indentured servants had little or no chance to procure their own land. This kept many colonials poor and led to strife between the poor servants and wealthy landowners.]

Comments (John Cave b. 6 Feb 1644 Misterton, Leicestershire, England d. 8 Apr 1721 Stafford County, Virginia, British Colonies in America): John Cave I believe is my 7th Great Grand farther and am trying to find the truth as to a few question's.

    1.Was John married twice ?

Does John's family consist of any of the following. Benjamin Cave Sr. 1703, Benjamin Cave Jr. 1735, William & Mary Cave 1777 and John Smith Cave 1801 (?)

It seems there is a lot of mislead information on this. Can you shed some truth light in this matter.

I would like to finish my family history while my health is still fairley good.

    =============================

Isaiah Harrison (1666-1738) came to America from England about January 2, 1687. This is the date of the first mention of his name in the Oyster Bay, Queen's Co., Long Island records. He was a blacksmith. According to "Settlers by the Long Gray Trail" he was the son of Rev. Dr. Thomas Harrison, chaplain to Henry Cromwell. About 1689 or near after, Isaiah's first wife died and then about 1700 he married second, Abigail Smith. On April 20, 1702, he sold all of his Oyster Bay lands, his wife Abigail joining him in signing the deeds. The same day he bought 500 acres of land on the western bank of the Nissequogue River, at Smithtown, Long Island, to which he removed with his family. There he bought 200 acres more, September 23, 1708; this land being on the eastern side of the river opposite his home tract. His second wife is thought to have been of the Smithtown family. The children of Isaiah and his wife Abigail, were all born at Smithtown, Long Island.

Isaiah sold his home place at Smithtown, June 12, 1721, and very shortly therafter removed with his family to Sussex County, Delaware, where he bought 900 acres of land known as Maiden Plantation---about eight miles west of Lewes---June 22, 1721. After his removal to Delaware he sold his remaining 200 acres at Smithtown, April 28, 1722, his wife Abigail also signing the deed. She is thought to have died about 1732. This year, on October 10th, for a nominal sum, he deeded to each of his sons, Daniel,Thomas, and Jeremiah, 250 acres of Maiden Plantation, her name being missing from these deeds. Later, on May 7th, 1736, he disposed of his remaining 150 acres of Maiden Plantation, also without her signature.

About 1737, Isaiah Harrison and his family of five sons and two of his daughters set out for Virginia. (son, Gideon died; son, Isaiah Jr. and Elizabeth may have remained behind). The family probably camped for about two years on the South Fork of the Shenandoah River before "taking up" land. During this time, Isaiah died and was buried near the "White House".
