      On the 1850 Spartanburg Dist SC, census, pg 168/169, family 1246 there is a Martin Family. All but Robert born SC

      For years there has been discussions on the parentage of Delilah. Some say she was d/o Nathan Byars b. 1746 and his first wife Drucilla Harrelson. Others say she was d/o of that Nathan Byars and his 2nd wife Delphy Logan.

      I found where a Robert Martin md Delilah Lewellin 14 Dec 1839, Rockingham, NC. Also found where a Robert Martin md Serena M. Daniel 16 Sep 1828 SC. The Delilah thought to be Byars has been given the birth date of 1786, but the Delilah of the census above b. c 1807/8.
      Drucilla Harrelson Byars was granted a separation from Nathan Byars in 1808. In those papers she says their trouble began in 1801 and that she had given birth to ten children.

      In 1860 Spartanburg Dist. SC Robert Martin is shown as 80 yrs born SC. Delila was 53 b. SC. Some of their children are still in the household and also there is Delphy Byars age 84. Othelo Martin lives next door with Sarah and children Romeo, Mary, Avanice and Eddy.

      Has anyone researched this family? Is there a death certificate for Othelo Martin or other children of Robert Martin and Delilah that gives the name of father and mothers maiden name? A death certificate for one of those children would lay to rest the debate. That is unless someone that did not know gave the information. My grandfather's death certificate has his birthday and death day correct. The info was given by a step-granddaughter and she knew nothing. Gave his brother as his father, the wrong place of birth and so on. Or if there is a marriage record for Robert Martin and Delilah Byars that would certainly lay it to rest. I would like to lay this issue to rest for the benefit of all.
