For many years people have wondered if Delilah Byars who married Robert Martin, was the child of Old Nathan (b.1746) Byars and his first wife Drucilla Harrelson or his second wife Delphy Logan. That question can now be laid to rest. Martha Byars ordered the death certificate of Misonare Martin (her name spelled many different ways in the census records). She never married,
County of Cherokee, SC - Certificate of Death: file #21843
Misonare Martin. female, white, single
date of death: Dec. 2 1807, date of birth Nov 19 1840
77 yrs 3 mo.
Information given by brother: Robert Martin
Father Robert Martin b NC
Mother's maiden name: Delylia* Byars b SC
MB Scruggs signed the certificate.
Delylia/Delilah Byars Martin was b c. 1808, about the time Drucilla was getting s legal separation from Old Nathan. In reading the census records we were all surprised that she named a daughter Drucilla and Delphia. Delphy was living in her household. Martha pointed out that Drucilla was also a Logan family name.
So those who thought Delilah might be the daughter of Drucilla can change their family group sheets. Delilah was not the daughter of Drucilla Harrelson Byars, but the daughter of Delphy Logan Byars.
I would like to correspond with descendants of Robert Martin and Delilah Byars.*her name also spelled many different ways. cbh
