He is mentioned in documents of the Priory at Lewes in Sussex and the Abbey of St. Martin, Battle. In 1150 he was a witness when his brother Reginald gave his manor at Cortesley to the priory at Lewes. At the same time he witnessed the gift of land and sea at Winchelsea by his brother Geoffrey to Battle Abbey. Helped to Found the Priory at Robertsbridge, Sussex.

Notes: Living mainly on his French lands in Normandy whilst his brother Wizo cared fo the lands at Fairlight in Sussex. As a result of his feudal duties accompanied the French King Phillip August on his conquest of Normandy, placed thus in a bad position, in reprisal the English King confiscated his English lands and arrested him on reconquering Normandy. Jean was held prisoner at Corfe Castle in Dorset for many years.The Barons revolt allowed the St. Leger family to offer ransom release aided by the Master Templar Roger St. Leger on 30 Aug 1216.

Notes: Lord of the Manor of Sowkerness or Sockernersh a manor situated in the extreme North of the parish of Brightling in the area of Battle Abbey about thirty kilometres from the sea. The present house erected on the ruins of the old in Elizabethan times is built in the same style as the ancient Norman manors. He had there an important forge for the manufacture of arms and armour. This was an importance source of revenue. He also owned other property beside the sea between the towns of Rye and Winchelsea. Witness to donations to Lewe.

Notes: Died after being thrown from or kicked by his horse. In the Abbey of St Albans there is a chapel dedicated to the Virgin Mary donated by John St. Leger and Thomas de Hoo. John de St. Leger sought protection for his journey to Carmarthen Wales. in 1322 The subsidy rolls for Hertfordshire indicate that St. Legers were paying taxes on movable property in 1301.

Notes: accompanied Richard I to Palestine for the third Crusade, taking a distinguished part in the siege of Acre in 1187. He had been in the Holy Land for 15 years.He returned to England around 1201. As his son carried the same name there are confusions but a "Ralph St. Leger" was a signatory to Magna Carta in 1215. Stemmata Leodegaria. His tomb still exists in Ulcombe Church.

Notes: Archdeacon of Kells c1275. An Anglo Norman his election as Bishop of Meath was strongly opposed by other Irish Bishops he therefore visited Rome 1282 whilst he was absent the Arch- Bishop of Armagh excommunicated him and appointed another. A further visit to Rome in 1284 and support from othr Bishops followed. A Papal Bull was addresse to King Edward I by Pope Honore IV in support of Thomas and he was consecrate on the 3 Nov 1287 in the Cathedral of Ossory at Kilkenny. He was active in raising money for the Crusades.
