James Arville Cantrell, 80, East Ridge,TN died Thursday, September 16, 2010, in Monteagle, TN.

He is now with our Lord. Mr. Cantrell was the loving son of Meeky Jane Hodge and James Robert Cantrell and was preceded in death by brother Harold and sister Jessie.

Dad is at peace. Always has been..... in his way. His way for everything was very important to him. So, we always let him have his way. He cared. He cared about so many things. He always made sure that the people who needed, got what he had to give. Sometimes he gave it all away. Even what he had worked so hard for, he would give to someone less fortunate. Most of all, he would give a song. He gave so many songs he wrote especially for you. His greater gifts were to give back to God. He was relentless in his teaching and delivery of God's word. Our memories are filled with his kindness and everlasting love of God. "Obey thy father" is more than a thought or passing phrase. Dad gave us so many wonderful things. He gave us life, foundation, will, family, trust, trust in God, and to cherish our Mother. Dad was never unhappy or sad. Sometimes he found himself in an unhappy place but his love of God brought him out. Many loved ones went to find him......... to bring him home, but, only God, finally, tells us when to come. James Arvil Cantrell, descended from nobility and grace.........AMAZING GRACE!!!!! Called home. Came home. Our father has gone to our true father to carry on his word in our hearts, forever! Amen! Our hearts seem heavy but his is filled with final joy as he joins his brothers and sisters before him, sings God's word, and is now able to help watch over and protect us all. James, "Saint James", "Brother Orville", "the Duke" or any other endowment he was able to adopt, was always united by his love and admiration he enthusiastically shared with everyone. "Give to God!" He was a devoted husband to Melissa Mae Ladd; and father to Dennis and Damon Cantrell.

Survived by his brother. LaVaughn; and sister, Willie Anne; loving Grandfather to Kelsi Edmundson, Justin Cantrell, Brooke Wilbanks, Shannon Crowe and Jason Cantrell. Celebrated great grandfather of Ethan Crowe, Hailey Crowe, Caleb Wilbanks, Tucker Edmundson.

Memorial graveside services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Chattanooga National Cemetery.
