| Audley M. Harrison (1791-1859) This is a picture taken of a portrait hanging at the home of Audley M Harrison Sr, which is still standing in Warren County, Tennessee. (See history: The Audley Harrison House) The portrait could not be scanned and therefore you see the reflection of a person and camera in the picture. We have a cousin, Ellen Harrison, who is an wonderful artist who is currently working on sketching a new portrait of Audley.

Notes |
- Excerpted from The Warren County Genealogical Association, Volume II, Winter 1993, Number Four, p. 29, article written by Mary Barnes,
"In 1814 some of the Harrison's neighbors in Blue Springs Cove were the Douglass, Eddy, Campbell, Charles and Dennis families. In 1825 they were the Mayfield, Widow Hitchcock, Hennessee, Higgenbotham, Kennedy, Martin and the Hawk families on the south side of the mountain in Hawk's Cove were the Hopkins, Rogers, McGregor, and Groves families.
In the acts of the legislature of 1817, Peter Hoodenpyl, Samuel Terry and William Rainey were authorized to open a turnpike from the foot of Cumberland Mountain in Sequatchie Valley, to the foot of the mountain in Warren County, on the most direct route from Pikeville to McMinnville. Obediah Jennings was appointed "Commishioner of View". Toll to be for each wagon, 8-team, 75 cents. Cart and driver 50 cents each, man and horse or mule 12 1/2 cents. Each loose horse 3 cents, cattle 2 cents, hogs or sheep each 1 cent.
This road afterwards known as the Harrison Ferry Road, the tradition being told that Audley Harrison won the road in a card game with William Rainey. It has alway been told that Harrison always had his opponents to sit in such a position that his wife could see the cards which his opponents held, while she sat at the spinning wheel, supposedly busy at her spinning. She would signal Harrison by the way she turned the wheel, so that he knew what was in the other man's hand. This road is now State Highway No. 8.
One of the Harrison men killed Mike Grove. It was a squabble about property, he left home and went to Texas. Audley Harriosn lived at the foot of the mountain just above his ferry. He was the ferryman and carried people across the Collins River in a long boat, the boat was attached to a steel cable that was anchored on both sides of the river.
Audley and some of his family are buried in a private plot at Shellsford Cemetery in Warren County, Tennessee."
