- John enlisted in the Union Army in Howell County, Missouri. He served in the 16 MO Calvary, Co K and the 8 MO Calvary.
After the Civil War he lived in Izard County, Arkansas. By 1865 he had settled in Lawrence County, Arkansas and remained there the rest of his life. For many years he operated the ferry across Black River at Powhatan, Arkansas. [2]
