- McMinnville resident and Van Buren County, TN native James Allen Ward, age 82, was born August 20, 1926 and died October 31, 2008 at his residence following a two-year illness.
A retired employee of Carrier, a United States Army veteran of WWII and member of McMinnville First Baptist Church, he was the son of the late John Wesley and Lula Hale Ward, Sr.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, John Wesley Ward, Jr. and Jonah Hale Ward.
He was married June 21, 1947 to Grace Simmons Ward of McMinnville. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, James Wesley Ward of Spring Lake, MI and Dr. Jonah Allen Ward of Providence, RI; two brothers, Titus Ward and Bill Ward both of McMinnville; two sisters, Shirley Hitchcock and Mary Lee Brimer both of Spencer, TN; several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
Funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 1, 2008 at First Baptist Church with Titus Ward and Joe Wright officiating.
Burial followed in the Gardens of Memory with full military honors administered by the American Legion Post 173 and VFW Post 5064. [2]
