Subject: Re: 1835 will of Jesse Webb

      Date: Saturday, November 14, 1998 3:25 PM

      David,
Thank you for the info.on Jesse. My interest in this family is stated below.
From what you have said, Pittslvania Co. VA rings a bell. Gillum was born in
1770-76 someplace. Many are working on trying to determine his parentage.
His older half brother was Moses Edwards b. in 1763 in Pittsylvania, VA
according to his pension file. Mr.Hopper never married Mose's mother so Moses
took the surname of his mother Edwards. Both Moses and Gillum and a Rolley
who may be a brother was apprenticed out at young ages. In 1782 Gillum is
living in Guilford, NC with an uncle Charles Gilly. I noticed that there were
many Gilly's in Warren Co. After the war, Moses is found living in the
Pendleton/Abbeville Dist., SC until he moves to Grayson Co., KY. I lose
Gillum between 1782 and about 1800 when he and Nancy are having the children
in Pulaski Co., KY. They move to Warren Co., by 1820. Millie told me that
Jesse Webb had lived in SC for awhile, too.

Anyway that is my interest. If anything rings a bell, or if you know the
whereabout of Samuel Hopper and Elizabeth Webb after 1840 let me know. We
believe the went to Perry Co., IL. I am the only one who goes so far as to
name Samuel's wife as Elizabeth Webb, but I think there is a lot of evidence
for that. One of Samuel's sons was a doctor in IL and had a write up on him
that I have yet to find.

      Thanks,
      Diane H.

      Ann and Millie,
I am not a descendent of Jesse Webb, but he holds interest to me for the
following reasons. Samuel Hopper, brother to my anscestor, Absolom, appears
to have married Jesse's daughter, Elizabeth. I have been trying to track
Samuel. I find who I believe to be him and his young bride living within the
Gillum (Gilliland) Hopper enumeration in Warren co. in 1820. In 1830 they are
enumerated next to Jesse Webb Sr. In 1840 Elizabeth is enumerated alone with
the kids. I was under the impression that Samuel had not died yet, and may
have gone to IL. Do either of you know if Elizabeth followed with the
      children?

Second, I am intriqued that Jesse has a son named Townsend and Gillum named
one of his sons, James Townsend Hopper.

Lastly, Jesse apparently has a son in law named Absolom Clark. My ancestor,
Gillum's son, was Absolom Clark Hopper, born 1808 in Pulaski co. KY.

Do you know where the Webbs lived before Warren Co. TN?

Hope the will was useful and that you might be able to shed some light on my
      questions.

      Diane H.
