- Philip C. Hennessee, M.D., 85, of Indianapolis, died March 11, 2004.
Dr. Hennessee was a graduate of Indiana University School of Medicine in 1943. He served his residency at Wishard Memorial Hospital, and then formed a private practice in Portland, Indiana with Dr. Don Spahr. He then formed his own private practice for a short period of time in Indianapolis. In 1963 he joined the staff at Central State Hospital and was there until his retirement in 1980. He was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon.
During Dr. Hennessee's distinguished career as a physician, he was a pioneer in by successfully re-attaching a person's thumb in 1952.
Dr. Hennessee received a commendation from The Honorable Otis R. Bowen, Governor of Indiana, for his diligent and compassionate care to the patients and the families of Central State Hospital.
An interesting event during his career was removing a race car driver who was killed during the Indianapolis 500 race; actually going across the track under a yellow flag.
Dr. Hennessee's funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Monday, March 15, 2004 at Flanner & Buchanan Funeral Center-Broad Ripple, with the visitation two hours prior to the service at the funeral center. In lieu of flowers, preferred memorials to the Salvation Army.
Survivors include his wife, Donna Lee Hennessee; children, Linda L. Norris and Stephen L. Hennessee; and two grandchildren, Alex and Christopher Norris.

I wanted to pass on my condolence with respect to your father passing. I'm sorry I couldn't make the service today. You may or may not remember, I met you through Bob Baker who lived around the corner from you on 57th & Central. Actually, the last time I saw you was at the Pepsi Coliseum during a Friday night skating session when we were sophomores at Broad Ripple High School.
