Darthula or Dorothula Dodson was born 26 Feb 1851 in White Co., TN. I haven't found anything else on her after 1919. She married Pleasant Calvin Houston GUNTER, 20 March 1886, John H. Rogers.
Ella Mae was born 01 May 1887, Morgan Co., TN, and married John Freels (no info) They had 1 child Mildred Faye, 27 March 1910 - 23 June 1910. We believe Ella May died from childbirth complications 23 June 1910.
These dates are from Morgan Co., Cemetery Book.
David Elmer, born May 1889, Morgan Co., TN. - Died 01 Jan 1942 in LA. in a car accident. He married Lela Pearl McCartt, born abt 1895 - abt 1934 from childbirth complications.
Their children were:
Rex, Donald Elmer, David (Dave), and Charles Terry.
Charles Terry was adopted by Joseph and Elva Dodson Davidson when Charles Terry's mother died. Charles Terry died 11 Dec 1934 in a car accident in Morgan Co., TN.
Dave Gunter gave me the above info about his parents.
Darthula is in the 1900, 1910 Morgan Co., TN census.
Her Civil War Pension is W5060.
My Aunt Mina Gunter Heidle remembers her as being a sweet person and called her "Dar".
There were some letters in her pension application and her marriage certificate, but nothing about her parents.
David Elmer was in World War 1, and from some info I've read, but can't recall just what he seemed close to his mother. I believe times were very hard for them as Pleasant Calvin Houston was a Confederate and Morgan Co., was mostly union.
PCH was taken prisoner in White Co., TN at "Old Man Hodges" house. PCH was married to Mary Edith Hodge and I think she died in childbirth or soon after with Malinda. Malinda is listed on the census with Darthula and PCH.
I just looked at Steve Mathis's site and he lists Dar's dates as 26 June 1841, N.C. - 24 Dec 1938. I have not talked to him, so do not know where this info comes from.
PCH is buried in the Morgan Co., Cemetery, but Dar is not.
