      RAPID CITY - Thomas J. Vermeulen, 43, Rapid City, died Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2000, in Todd County, as the result of an airplane accident.


      He was born Nov. 30, 1956, at Mitchell, the son of Bernard E. and Wilma (McGee) Vermeulen. He grew up on a farm in the rural Letcher area and attended vo-tech school in Mitchell after high school graduation.



      On Nov. 12, 1976, Tom was united in marriage to DeeAnn Moody at Letcher. The couple moved to Rapid City in 1985. He was employed by Action Mechanical from 1976 until the present time.



      He was a very devoted family man and enjoyed hunting and fishing.



      Christian wake services will be at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 27, at Cathedral of Our Lady of Perpetual Help. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 28, at Cathedral of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, with the Rev. Brian Christensen as celebrant. This will be a joint service for Thomas Vermeulen and Shane Sheesley, who were victims of the same accident.



      There will be a memorial service in Mitchell at a later date, with inurnment at a later date.



      Survivors include his wife, DeeAnn Vermeulen; his son, Ryan Vermeulen; and his daughter, Karla Vermeulen, all of Rapid City; his mother, Wilma Aulner, and her husband, Albert; three brothers, Dick Vermeulen and his wife, Myrna, Ronnie Vermeulen and his wife, Lynette, all of Mitchell, and Gary Vermeulen and his wife, Maxine, Casper, Wyo.; two sisters, Shirley Northrup and her husband, Harry, Letcher, and Mary Jo McGraw and her husband, Terry, Castle Rock, Colo.; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father.



      A memorial has been established. Arrangements are under the direction of Osheim-Catron Funeral Home.
