I recently found that my line of Gordons may have possibly come to TN from KY and before that from Amelia and Amherst Counties in VA. This is hinted at in a book entitled "The History and Genealogy of some pioneer Northern Alabama Families." The book traces the migration of some early AL/TN/KY Gordons and their close family friends, the BLACK family.
Here is some background:
My current research efforts focus on my gr-gr-gr-grandfather Robert Gordon (abt. 1773-1854) who moved to Warren Co., TN abt. 1810. He had a wife Sarah and at least 8 children, including my gr-gr-grandfather James Madison Gordon. It is written in several family bibles that Robert Gordon's father was named William Gordon (17?? - ????).
According to Plat and Grant records of early 1800s Warren Co., TN there were several Gordons living very close (or even with) my Robert including: John Gordon, Pauline Gordon, James Gordon, John Gordon Jr., Elizabeth Gordon, Elise Gordon and a widow Gordon.
Is it possible that my Robert Gordon and his father William Gordon may be one of those KY lines?
Thanks, Tei A. Gordon
