  • Notes
    • I am seeking to get a SAR Supplemental Application approved for Lily McIlhaney Bowen.

Her son was Arthur Bowen and granddaughter was Nancy Agnes Bowen (1772-1845) who married John Byars in 1791.

His dates were 1764-1819. Jane Byers was their daughter.

David and Jane moved with his family from Wythe County, VA, to Knox County, Indiana, in 1838.

On Oct. 20, 1845, he gave power of attorney to Peter Killinger (1800-1880), of Smyth County, Virginia, to collect his wife's inheritance from her mother, Nancy Byars, deceased on July 13, 1845, whose estate was in Smyth Co., VA.

A copy would help to serve as proof for SAR.

      Thank you very much.

Comments (The Hennessee Family Genealogy Pages):

I am a 4th great-granddaughter of Benjamin Bowen, father of Nancy Agnes and wanted to let you know that a cousin and I have just started an intensive revamp of the Bowen information. We have discovered that Benjamin was NOT the son of John and Lillian Bowen since they were in Virginia by 1730 where ALL of their children were born. Benjamin specifically states in his pension application that he was born in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania in 1756, thus he could not be their son - we are now on a quest to try to find his parents and they were probably Quaker from the same extended family, however we have no proof of this as of this date.

If you need his pension application email me and I will send it to you - As for Samuel Findley (Finley; Finlay), he too originated in PA but have not been able to locate his family and he might have been either 1. an orphan or 2. the original emigrant. Someone told me he was one of three or four brothers who migrated from Scotland, but again i have worked on him for 35 years and not found anything until he is in SC.
