- From Allen R. Hennessee:
James David Hennessee did not serve in the Civil War. He, like his father, was a farmer and a blacksmith. He lived on the family plantation and became the owner. His wife's family came from Missouri and her father was one of the first doctors in Morganton.
At the time of his death the Hennessee plantation had been reduced to about 150 acres.
