    Hi, David:

Thought you might like this addl tidbit which came in today under "Early History of the Linville Valley, An Account of Early Settlers of the Linville Valley Section, Written Twenty Years Ago by the Late S. C. Kerley; Gives Historical Data (Transcribed by Betsy Dodd Pittman from the 29 May 1924 Issue of the Morganton Herald)":

"John Wakefield sold his farm to James Murphy, Esq., who was one of the most prominent and also one of the wealthiest men in the county. After coming into possession of this property, he rented it to Tysdale Spencer, a son of Judge Spencer, of Rowan County, who, according to Wheeler's History of North Carolina, was killed when very old by a turkey gobbler. This family, through misfortune was reduced from wealth and affluence almost to poverty.

Tysdale Spencer lived on the farm for some time, until he and his landlord had some dispute in their business relations which resulted in Spencer's killing Murphy. This took place in Spencer's barn, a short distance from the house, about the year 1882. Spencer was tried for murder at Morganton, was convicted, and branded in the hand. He left the country a short time after this unfortunate affair, went to Alabama and lived to a very ripe old age."

I assume it is meant that Tisdale was killed when very old by a turkey. I wonder too, did Tisdale leave N. C. & go to Alabama first, then Ga., or is Alabama in error? We do have proof of Ga. were Tisdale gave Georgia land to daughter Mary (Mary E. Walker) Oct. 1, 1867, and to her husband, Joseph D. Walker June 17, 1867. Nita

Carity Spenser married into the Spencer family..would be my 2nd GM

Joseph Spencer is my 4th GF.... His son is Lemuel is my 3rd GF...

Theres confusion about Joseph father Samuel because of the age difference... looking for either grave site for Joseph or death certificate for correct age.....Any information to clarify the age difference would be helpful because people are commenting that the age difference is impossible or a generation has been skipped...

Once I get done and verify, I would be glad to help with the line...

Also other ways connected are thru the Jones, Webb, Bellamy ..

I have disconnected Joseph, http://thehennesseefamily.com/getperson.php?personID=I18507&tree=hennessee, from Samuel, http://thehennesseefamily.com/getperson.php?personID=I28618&tree=hennessee, as the birth dates do not make any sense and there appears to be a great deal of controvery over this father-son relationship...DAH
